Douglas Kent Saunders

Douglas Kent Saunders, 69, of Brighton, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at his home.

He was born December 14, 1953, in Lyons, Kansas, to the late Orvel and Madge (Hubbard) Saunders.

Doug graduated from Oklahoma State University with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. Post graduation, he pursued a career as an Aerospace Engineer for Eaton Aerospace.

In his leisure time, Doug had many interests. His children remember his love for the Kansas City Chiefs and Oklahoma State Football. He was very passionate about cars and airplanes. He was frequently buying, selling and collecting cars of all kinds. After high school graduation he earned his A & P mechanics license and single engine pilot license at Spartan School of Aeronautics. Doug had a love for the outdoors and took many trips to National Parks, frequenting his favorite park, Glacier National Park in Montana. His summers weren't complete without at least one trip to Table Rock, Missouri for camping and boating. He loved to cook for others, especially Cajun and creole cuisine. While he was at home, he liked to garden and watch western movies to relax and unwind.

Doug will be missed by his children, Katie Latta of Olathe, KS, Kent (Carrie) Saunders of Wentzville, MO; grandchildren, Maci Latta, Colton Latta, Avery Saunders, Stella Saunders; and brother, David (Valerie) Saunders.

Cremation rites have been accorded and entrusted to Anderson Family Funeral Home in Brighton.

A private family burial will be held at a later date in Lyons Cemetery, Lyons, KS.

Memorials in Doug’s name may be made to his children to establish a fund to further the education of his grandchildren, a subject that he felt very strongly.
