Harry William Oertel, 81, of Brighton, passed away on Thursday, December 4, 2025, surrounded by his family.

He was born on March 30, 1944, in St. Louis County, the son of the late Henry Sr. and Mary (Sieferd) Oertel.

Harry owned and operated Harry Oertel Excavating from 1977 until he retired in 2013.  He was a country boy who enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He married Anita Romano on May 9, 1964, in Brighton. She survives.

Harry is survived by his wife, Anita; three children Vince Oertel of Piasa, Glen (Kristina) Oertel of Dow, and Sandy (Jody) Dwiggins of Brighton; four grandchildren Brandon Oertel, Lauren Dover, Kristopher Bosco, and Sydney Dwiggins; eight great grandchildren; sister Helen Wallace; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son Brian Oertel; three brothers Henry Oertel Jr, Fred Oertel, and Greg Oertel; sister Gertrude Goss.

The family will be hosting a celebration of life from 12:30 to 4:00 on Sunday December 21, 2025, at the Christian Life Center at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Brighton.
