Myrtle Irene Miller Akers, previously of Brighton, passed away Saturday, March 30, 2024.  She was born in Hillview on November 13, 1921, to Francis Carl and Hattie Elizabeth Miller.  She married James A. Akers, and they celebrated 47 years of marriage prior to his death in 1988.

Mrs. Akers was also preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Frances Marie Campbell, Estaleene Gladys Mitchell, Freda Alice Crabtree and Nellie Virginia Soellner; one brother, Henry A. Miller; her oldest daughter, Phyllis Ann Havens and son-in-law, John S. Davidson.

Survivors include two daughters; Doris Jean Davidson of Springfield and Barbara Sue (Vernon) Davis of Brighton; four grandchildren, Lynnette (David) Martin of Springfield, James (Jennifer) Havens of Normal, Bradley (Sarah) Davis of Highland and Robert Davidson of Springfield; six great grandchildren, Grant Martin, James, Madeline and Tobey Havens and Kayla and Colby Davis.

Mrs. Akers was very proud of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She was definitely happiest when she was with her family.

She graduated from White Hall High School in 1940.  After many years as a stay-at-home wife and mother, she attended Hardin Business College, followed by employment as a bookkeeper for J. C. Penney Co. in Jacksonville and Alton.  She was a member of Brighton Christian Church and was honored in 2012 during the Church’s 50th Anniversary Celebration as one of three members over the age of 90.

The funeral service will be held at 11:30 am on Saturday, April 6, at Anderson Funeral Home in Brighton with the Reverend Richard Michael Barnett, Jr. officiating.  The family will meet friends at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service.  She will be buried alongside her husband in the Akers family plot in Manchester.
