James Russell Thaxton

James R. Thaxton, 75, of Alton died at 7:32 pm on Saturday, July 18, 2020 at his home.

He was born on December 4, 1944 in Alton to the late Arthur and Helen Naomi (Vandergriff) Thaxton.

Jim married Donna Pointer on August 12, 1967 in Piasa. She survives.

He served our Country in the United States Marines During Vietnam. Jim was a bus driver for Cavallo Bus Lines and Greyhound before retiring in 2010.  He was a member of Faith Baptist church in Godfrey and was an avid sports fan, especially the St. Louis Cardinals.

Jim is survived by his wife, Donna; three children Noelle Thaxton of Alton, Erin (John) Harper of Brighton and Janna Thaxton of Roxana; seven grandchildren; two great grandchild; sister Becki (Mark) Golike; two brothers Art (Alice) Thaxton and Randy (Karen) Thaxton; sister in law Pat Thaxton and several nieces and nephews who will miss him.

In addition to his parents Arthur and Helen, he was preceded in death by two brothers Dick and Ken Thaxton and one grandson.

Visitation will be held from 10 am until the time of funeral service at 11 am on Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at Faith Baptist Church in Godfrey.

Private burial will be at Bethany Cemetery at a later date.

Memorials may be made to Mississippi Valley Christian School.
