Warner Embley Obituary

Warner C. Embley, 73, of Brighton, went home to be with the Lord at 3:43 a.m. on Tuesday, June 30, 2020, at Missouri Baptist Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.

On March 8, 1947, he was born in Carrollton, Illinois, to George L. and Bernice (Warner) Embley.

Warner served our country and was a veteran of the United States Air Force. After his honorable discharge from the Air Force, he joined the United States Army Corp. of Engineers, from where he retired.

He married Ruth Williams on December 6, 1969, at Brighton Presbyterian Church and this past December, the two celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. She survives.

Warner was an avid golfer and was a member of West Lake Country Club, and First Baptist Church in Jerseyville. Those of you that had the pleasure of meeting him know that he was the nicest guy you’d ever meet, but without being rude or hurting your feelings, he’d tell you the reality of a situation and redirect your thoughts, if needed. He had a way of telling stories and saying things that no one else could. Some may also know that he had a tradition of picking out nicknames for each of his grandkids when they were born. Time with his family and grandchildren meant a great deal to him.

In addition to his wife, Ruth, he will be greatly missed by his mother, Bernice; two children, Michelle Embley of Jerseyville, Brian (Holly) Embley of Brighton; three grandchildren, Blaine Embley, Anna Embley, and Jacob Dixon; one brother, Mark (Brenda) Embley; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, George; and his in-laws, Abe and Rose Williams.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until time of funeral service at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, July 6, 2020, at 1st Baptist Church in Jerseyville, with Pastor Brent Meyer and Pastor Patrick Embley, Warner’s nephew, officiating.

Private graveside service will be held at a later date in Brighton Cemetery.

Anderson Family Funeral Home in Brighton has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Brighton Betsey Ann Fire Protection District, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, or First Baptist Church in Jerseyville.
